The sign reads:
“Welcome to Amarna, the city of Akhenaten and Nefertiti dedicated solely to the sun god Aten. Over 3,000 years ago, Amarna (ancient Akhetaten) served briefly as Egypt’s capital. Today, it is one of the best preserved cities from the ancient world. the North Tombs belonged to some of the most important officials in Akhenaten’s court. Six of the tombs were substantially decorated (numbers 1 – 6) they contain important evidence for Akhenaten’s reign, including scenes of the royal family worshipping the Aten, images of the city’s temples and palaces, and hymns to the sun god.”
